The experienced father-and-son team of Stan and Kinnon have long been recognized in tourism circles throughout Nova Scotia for operating the most popular whale tour in Cape Breton!

Little wonder!  The MacKinnons are fifth and sixth generation descendants of the first Scottish pioneers to settle this area.  Their unique approach to whale watching has brought together the tradition of Celtic music and a matchless splendour of nature!

Captain Stan, a local historian, musician, former teacher and fisherman, is renowned for "calling " the whales with his fiddle. He was recently written up in Coastal Living Magazine in the USA.

People along the [Cabot] Trail had told us. "If you want to see whales, visit Stan MacKinnon." Stan melds his love of fiddling with his whale-watching business. A while back, he straddled the bow of his boat and played his fiddle. Pilot whales appeared and seemed to enjoy the music, lingering at the boat's edge for several minutes. Captain Kinnon known in the whale watching business as "Eagle Eye",  will share with you his extensive knowledge of whales,  as well as stories about the fishing industry in the area, early settlers and Gampo Abbey (a local Tibetan Buddhist Monastery in sight of the whale tour).

Stan's daughter Mary Lynn looks after the office. Her friendly personality and helpful advice regarding appropriate souvenir items, provides a further sense of genuineness to the operation. 

Family friends from the nearby community work as occasional Captains, tour guides, office workers and crew members. They make a dynamic team - unequalled in all of Cape Breton!
